Solar Assessments & Installation

Using computer software that utilizes satellite imagery, we take a look at the solar potential of your property, and provide you with a report that highlights generation, savings, and return on investment estimates. We take a lot of pride in the accuracy of these estimates.

If you like what you see in the report, we provide full service turn-key installation.

Energy Audits

This helps you identify areas of potential savings. We will take a holistic approach and find all the savings in your home from ground up.

Look at your insulation, air sealing, HVAC, ductwork, lighting, and finally solar to make your home as efficient as possible.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades

We specialize in LED lighting retrofits and upgrades. In commercial buildings, this is often where the most savings can be found, with the least investment. The return on investment can be seen in less than 2 years!

We also offer air sealing, and other light efficiency upgrade installs.

Grant Assistance

We are trained to find you the best incentives to help pay for your project. Federal and State grants are available in rural KY that can save up to 75% off total project costs. We offer turn key grant applications for folks, to help them access this essentially free money, without letting the frustrations of the paperwork get in the way.

Right now, small business owners and farmers stand to gain the most from grant reimbursement.

Ben did an LED lighting retrofit at our office and warehouses in Owen County and he did a great job. Ben was great to work with. He replaced about 150 fluorescent bulbs with LED bulbs. We expect this will cut our lighting energy use in half and save us over $900 per year on our electric bills. Just as important, we improved the lighting quality throughout our facility, added fixtures to areas that previously did not have lights, and greatly reduced the long-term maintenance needs of our lighting. Appalachian Energy Works offers valuable energy efficiency services to eastern Kentucky, and can help businesses and homeowners bring down their energy costs.

Ben Tatum and his company, Appalachian Energy Works, upgraded and expanded my off-grid solar system. He installed new panels and reinstalled my older panels linking them together using dual charge controllers. I now have 4 times the energy capacity. Ben installed a 9.24 kW roof mount solar system on our new Community Kitchen at HomeGrown HideAways. Despite having a heavy electrical load of four ovens, three refrigeration units, three dryers, and three mini-split systems, the grid-tied system produced twice as much as electricity as the building consumed during our peak summer months.

In collaboration with the Mountain Association, Ben also assisted in helping us write two grants, both of which we received, to help offset the installation costs and quicken our return on investment. Ben was also meticulous about aligning the panels on our roof so perfectly, that most folks don’t even notice we have solar – it’s beautiful!
